The death and destruction of human lives, death of animals as well as loss of properties like houses and crops is still continuing as a number of villages submerge in the floodwater. The panic situation is due to heavy rains and also the release of huge water from Dams. Now flood has become a regular phenomenon for Gujarat and North-Maharashtra but the Government hardly bothers about any extra and permanent arrangements to check the disaster timely. The whole scenario is revealing the loopholes in the so-called development plans and weaknesses of safety measures followed by the Government Authorities.
6th August was one of the disastrous days that saw heavy rains and storms in the area of Jalgavn, Dhule and Nandoorbar Districts. The administration opened 36 doors of the hatnur dam situated over the river Tapi and water flow was as high as approximately 4.5 lakh qusek per hour. The other rivers namely Gomai, Waghur, Shivan, PataalGanga and Panzarakan joining the river Tapi were already flowing beyond the danger level. The Chiur dam situated over the Gomai River was destroyed and all the 48 doors of the Hantur Dam were opened and 22 villages of Shahada Tahsil, 18 villages of Nandurbar Tahsil were submerged. The rehabilitation sites dam of Sardar Sarovar was also destroyed causing heavy loss of crops. More than 200 houses of Rewanagar and Tarawat rehabilitatuion sites were submerged. All the ways going to Taloda were blocked. In Nandurbar districts more than 70 villages are affected from flood where 22 people died, 27 people are missing and almost 9 thousand-hectare farming land is destroyed. 68 thousand people were displaced to safe places. In Jalgavn, 53 villages and 36 thousand families are affected and 19 people lost their lives.
In Gujarat also the villages on the banks of Tapi River are painfully affected which include the working area of Lok Sangharsh Morcha, our organisation. These villages remaining in the dark hope of rehabilitation since last 32 years are affected heavily. More than 75 thousand families of 22 villages of Nizhar Tahsil, 18 villages of Songad Tahsil and 7 villages of Sagbara Tahsil are affected. More than 25 thousand houses are destroyed.
The exact report of tragedy is yet to come but the families affected have no way to restart their routine life unless committed support is given helping them to come out of disastrous misery.
We, on the behalf of Lok Sangharsh Morcha & Lok Samanway Pratishthan appeal all of you to lend every possible support in the form of money as well as food, medicines, cloths and other necessary things. You can come in the affected area to give a supporting hand helping in the relief or can send the things in the name of Lok Samanway Pratishthan.

With regards,
Pratibha Shinde, Yamuna Vasawa, Suman Vasawa, Ramdas Tadvi, Ambarish Rai

Contact:-Pratibha Shinde, Harakalal Nagar,Taloda, Dist.
